The smithy lies just a little outside of the village in the Eastfold, near the river Entwash. It is a complex of two huts and one main house merged together. The building on the far right, on the eastern side, is built of both, wood and stone. It is the smithy, Beran's working place, and contains one single large and high room. In the center of this room is situated a large, open fireplace to heat metal in, and a fume hood is placed two meters above to distract the smoke from the room. Right beside the fireplace is a large bucket with water, either for cooling the metal, or for dousing the fire. Other than that, the room is crowded with anvils, certain tools like hammers, metal of all kinds, shapes and weighs - one has to be cautious where to step. There are two doors leading into the smithy, one from a little shed- the smithy's main entrance door - and one that leads to the family's living area, the second house.
This dwelling house is built entirely out of wood, and is two floors high. One can enter it either through door from the smithy, or through the main entrance in the middle of the building complex. On the ground floor, on the smithy's side, there's a large room containing the kitchen and the living quarter. Many chairs and tables, and one couch made out of linens and hayballs, are placed there, together with an open oven for cooking, and a fireplace on the other side of the room, for heating. Also on the ground floor lies Beran's own room. On the far right of the dwelling house is the stair case, leading up to the first floor, where Daerol's and Duilin's rooms are situated, right beneath the hay roof.
And the final hut, on the western side of the dwelling house, is the stable. The family owns two horses and a few chickens, which are kept in there. Again, it is made out of wood, and it is, compared to the other two parts of Beran's smithy, rather small, but efficiently equipped for the animals. One can enter it just from the outside.
