RULES?!
if you don't follow them, i'll let sauron loose on your kids!
if you don't follow them, i'll let sauron loose on your kids!
GENERAL !
to start with, we on NAFA go by the three-strikes-and-you're-out rule, purely based on the fact that it works nicely, and it allows people to redeem themselves if they're given a warning. so there are a few things which we will most certainly not tolerate on this board. racism and sexism, for example, no matter how subtle it is. everybody around here is equal, whether they're a member, a moderator, an admin or a guest. treat everyone how you want to be treated, okay? also, we should probably mention that swearing, sex, drugs, rock n roll and the rest of it certainly is not allowed here. you can always make it look delicately by posting an M on your thread topic, but don't go all the way with sex. skip that part, make it as "the next morning". then there is this rule: members are not allowed to post pictures containing nudity or something rude and/or vulgar. remember, we are a lord of the rings site. what does not fit into lord of the rings should be left out. and finally, bashing and spamming on the roleplaying boards is condemned, so don't do it. we have ooc boards for a reason!
REGISTERING !
we'll make this very clear: when you register, make sure it's with a first, a middle and a last name all in UPPERCASE. us admins don't want to have to spend time changing everybody's usernames because they didn't stick to the rules. also, if you're going to play an original, please don't register with the same surname as a canon character, as it confuses things, and makes it look like the canons have a long lost relative. if you do want to do the long lost relative thing, we'd appreciate it if you could register with your own choice of surname, thanks. and yes, we see gandalf the grey as a full name with a surname, however non-canon characters are not permitted to be called "[first name] the brave" etc.. you can always give them last names after their father, for example: alvin beon's son/beaonson/beonsson or perhaps add an elvish ending after the name of the father, like: sylvia beraniell, alvin beranion. we're really going to stress the next one because there is always somebody who's guilty of it. nobody is perfect. not even your characters are. really, characters need flaws! we don't want to see mary-sues on our board! also, if an admin spots any mistakes in your application, any disregard of these rules, or your sample does not appear literate enough, the admins reserve the right to reject your application. so don't assume that by filling out your app, you are automatically approved. finally, signatures must not stretch the board skin! it looks untidy if they do, and so they will be deleted without warning. no wider than 550X400 for the banners, and no bigger than 150X200 for the avatars. and if possible, make the pictures fit into middle earth. a little note on your character having "special abilities", you have to apply for them first. do not assume that your character, let's say he's an elf, automatically has them. you need to fill out the application form and be approved first.
ROLEPLAYING !
we've said it before, and we'll say it again. this is a literate site, going on medium. there's no chatspeak tolerated unless you're in the chatbox. even then, only minor chatspeak such as brb and lol is accepted. we're sorry if this is an inconvenience to anybody, but we freaking despise when people type "u" or "r" as opposed to spelling the words out properly. when you are posting in the rpg section, make sure it's in the past tense as it make things so much easier for us all to understand. okay, so no powerplaying or godmodding unless you've plotted out a roleplay with somebody, and you have the other roleplayer's permission. you can powerplay and godmode to your hearts content, then. if you plan to kill off your character, please inform the admin first, as we don't want mass suicides here in middle earth. finally, if you are starting up a roleplay with a specific character, make sure that everybody knows its for the specific character, so nobody else will post. if you do see a board made for a specific character, you should respect that and not post there. now, if you understand all this, go make a character that we'll all fall in love with! or whatever tickles your fancy. how yeah, our secret phrase for the application template is 'sing me a story' ... another very important thing: your post must not be shorter than 300 words! yes, 300! No one liners. if they are shorter you will get a warning and if it continues - face a deletion.
MIDDLE EARTH !
the first thing you have to remember is that your characterhas no special abilities before he/she has applied for them and was approved! you cannot just write about it in the application and just assume that you have them. you also have to remember that not all are aragorns and eowyns in middle earth. there are also normal blacksmiths, gardeners, herders and what not. we need all town folk! young and old, handsome and ugly - no world is only filled with young and attractive people - please be realistic. remember to apply for a profession as well. everything is accepted - even an unemployed alcoholic at bree will be accepted if you give us a good reason. canon characters do not have to apply for their magical abilities if it is clear in the books what they have. we will make sure that they will be added to the list. then there is the whole war idea. how is that going to happen? read about the wars in the thread 'warfare'. so, that was about it. good rp'ing, people!
